At Pennine Way Primary School, we are proud to be an inclusive school where every child is valued, supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential.

Some children may have additional needs that affect their learning, communication, emotional wellbeing, physical development or ability to access the curriculum. These are known as Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

We believe that every child is unique and we focus on understanding and meeting individual needs. We work hard to identify any barriers to learning as early as possible so that the right support can be put in place at the right time.

Our aim is to ensure that all pupils can take part fully in school life, make good progress and feel happy, safe and successful. We achieve this through high-quality teaching, carefully planned support, appropriate adaptations to learning and, where necessary, additional interventions.

Teachers, support staff and the SEND team work closely together to monitor progress and provide support that is tailored to each child's needs. We follow the Graduated Approach of Assess, Plan, Do, Review, regularly reviewing the effectiveness of support and making adjustments where necessary.

Partnership with parents and carers is extremely important to us. We believe that children make the best progress when school and home work together. Parents and carers are encouraged to discuss any concerns with their child's class teacher and are welcome to meet with our SEND Coordinator (SENDCo) to talk about support, progress and next steps.

Where appropriate, we also work with a range of external professionals, including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and other specialist services to ensure children receive the support they need.
