Promoting Fundamental British Values

At Pennine Way Primary School, we are committed to preparing our pupils for life in modern Britain. Through our curriculum, assemblies, wider school experiences and daily interactions, we actively promote the Fundamental British Values identified by the Department for Education.

We encourage children to develop an understanding of the world around them and to show respect, kindness and consideration towards others. Our pupils learn that people may hold different beliefs, values and opinions, and that these differences should be embraced with tolerance and respect. At the same time, they understand the importance of following the laws and rules that help keep our communities safe, fair and inclusive.

The five Fundamental British Values are:

• Democracy – understanding that everyone's voice matters and learning how to participate in decision-making.
• The Rule of Law – recognising the importance of rules and laws in school and society.
• Individual Liberty – developing confidence, independence and the freedom to make choices safely and responsibly.
• Mutual Respect – treating others with kindness, fairness and consideration.
• Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs – appreciating and celebrating the diversity of our local, national and global communities.

These values are woven throughout school life and underpin our commitment to helping every child become a respectful, responsible and active citizen who is well prepared for the future
